Caras Vemos, Corazones No Sabemos: The Human Landscape of Mexican Migration addresses the journey of the Mexican migrant, from the perils of border crossing to the struggles of establishing normalcy once in the U.S. This exhibition is a comprehensive archive and image-bank that documents and validates artistic expression about immigration experiences between Mexico and the United States. Through continual migration Latin America has seeped into the United States. The "Latinization" of our country and the "Americanization" of Latin America is a firm reality, and established notions of identity, belonging, and citizenship no longer correspond to the expected historical-social scenarios.

The exhibition title comes from a popular dicho that loosely translates to "faces seen, hearts unknown" and can be read as a commentary on judgment and intolerance projected onto the thousands of anonymous immigrants who enter the United States each year. Encompassing multiple techniques, from engraving to painting, installation art to video, this exhibition offers an opportunity to create a deep and human connection between the faded faces of the migrants and their living, beating hearts.
